National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
Here at Water World in York we hold a number of NPLQ
(National Pool Lifeguard Qualification) courses throughout
the year to both provide a service to anyone that
would like to add this qualification to their CV or
to gain employment in the leisure industry, whether
that be with us or to use elsewhere.
Our next NPLQ course will be running in the month

The timetable is set to cover the hours that are required
to take the exam. It is essential that candidates
are able to attend every session to be eligible to
take the exam at the end of the course.
The cost of this course is £225, £100
of which will need to be paid as a deposit upon booking
on the course. Please note that bookings will not
be taken unless the deposit is paid at the time of
booking. The remaining course cost will need to be
paid in full a minimum of 10 days in advance of the
start date. We require a minimum of 3 weeks notice
if you are unable to attend the course as failure
to do so will result in the full balance being owed.
All the course literature and assessors are provided
within this cost. You will need to bring with you
pen, paper and appropriate swimwear with shorts and
t-shirt that you don’t mind getting wet for
all the sessions unless told otherwise by the course
tutor.
In order to ensure you are able to do this training
and exam a swimming test will be held at set times
2 weeks before the start of the course. Details of
this will be sent out closer to the time. The test
will consist of the following:
· Being able to swim 50m within 1 minute
· Swim 6 lengths on the front and then 6 on
the back continuously with no time limit
· Climb out of the pool unaided
· Retrieve a rescue manikin from the pool floor
(depth set to 2 metres)
· General swimming assessment, bear in mind
that being a good swimmer is necessary!
You will also need to bring with you swimwear with
shorts and t-shirt to swim in for the swimming test.
Thank you again for your enquiry.
